Bible Verse of the Month: “And it is my prayer that your love abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.” (ESV) Philippians 1:9-10

September 12 Sunday School Kick-off Picnic & Chili Contest Please join us in celebrating our youth and the official start of Sunday School. The Church School Board will once again be sponsoring the all church picnic on September 12 (immediately following worship service). This is a good time to invite a family member, friend or neighbor to church! The Church School Board will provide the hot dogs and hamburgers, coffee and lemonade. Look for a sign-up sheet in the loggia and sign-up to bring either a dessert or side dish. Qs? Suggestions? Please see Lee Stansfield, Paula Wetzel, Chris Carroll or Claire Varnet. There will also be a chili contest this year. So dig out those family recipes and get out those special spices. See any board member to enter the contest.
September 19 Men’s Breakfast To Start Again in September With New Book Study  The Men’s Breakfast group has decided to begin a new book study next September, using John Ortberg’s best-selling book, “Faith and Doubt,” as the basis for discussion. The group meets 7:30-8:30 a.m. on the third Sunday of (most) every month between September and May. A hearty breakfast is served (and then eaten), followed by a stimulating discussion of a Christian book. Ortberg’s book asks, “We often think of doubt as the opposite of faith, but could it actually strengthen our relationship with God?” He points out that “the very nature of faith requires the presence of uncertainty.” This is indeed a thoughtful and stimulating book, that, to quote the dust jacket blurb, “will challenge, comfort, and inspire you with the truth that God wants all of us—including our doubts.”

Informational Meetings regarding Church Affiliation

The Affiliation Committee has been busy this summer reviewing many options for PCC to consider for possible affiliation partners. We’ve decided to hold three “Informational” meetings on September 14, September 21, and September 22 at 7:00. Each evening, we have asked a different organization to share for the first 30 minutes, which will be followed by 30 minutes of questions and answers from the congregation. The purpose of the meeting is not only to learn more about different options available, but to provide a forum for the Affiliation Committee to received feedback from the congregation. The Affiliation Committee feels the three organizations we’ve asked to share are very different from each other with very different resources and views towards affiliation. We eagerly await your feedback to assist us as we move through the process.

bulletSeptember 14 – Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC)
bulletSeptember 21 – National Association of Congregational Christian Churches (CCC)
bulletSeptember 22 – Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (CCCC)

Each meeting will begin promptly at 7:00 and end by 8:00. We encourage everyone to share a time of fellowship before each meeting. We plan on firing up the grill each night at 6:00. Feel free to bring dinner for yourself, to share, or something for the grill that we’ll cook up for you! Child care will be available. We highly encourage you to attend and share with us your thoughts as we continue to move forward together.
