Poquonock Playschool
We are a non-profit, non-sectarian Nursery School program located at the
Poquonock Community Church. We provide early education for three and
four-year-olds.
Poquonock Playschool has been in service to the community since 1982. We are
licensed by the State of Connecticut, and our facility is inspected and approved
annually by Windsor Fire and Health Department officials.
PHILOSOPHY
We believe that pre-school children learn most effectively through a
play-based program. Such a program creates a safe and nurturing environment in
which children are encouraged to explore, to imagine, to create and to interact.
Our major goal is to present each child with a variety of opportunities for
success, in order to promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual
growth. By offering children opportunities to develop self-confidence and
positive self-image, we promote a healthy attitude toward school and future
learning experiences.
CURRICULUM
The program at Poquonock Playschool is designed to encourage each child's
creativity and interests within a structured framework. Daily activities include
art, science and nature, music and movement, playground activities,
game-playing, story time and free play. During free play, children may choose
from a variety of options, such as sand and water play, dramatic and imaginative
activities and playing with manipulatives such as building blocks or puzzles. We
emphasize activities which encourage self-growth as well as interaction with
other children. We focus on development of pre-kindergarten skills such as
listening and language skills, gross and fine motor abilities and respect for
others. Through our daily program as well as with field trips and special guest
speakers, we encourage children to explore and enjoy the wonders of their world!
TEACHERS
The role of teachers at Poquonock Playschool is to facilitate growth and
learning within a positive and nurturing environment. All of our teachers are
well-qualified and dedicated individuals who work together to implement a
high-quality curriculum. They are trained in First Aid and CPR and they
regularly attend classes dealing with a variety of topics and issues in early
childhood education.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT

program at any time
Families are invited to attend Open House, Holiday Parties, Family Nights and
